Students in our Principles of Biomedical Science and AP Biology classes recently had an unforgettable, hands-on learning experience at the Shock Trauma Center. The visit offered a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at how emergency teams work together to save lives every day, and even gave students a chance to step into the action themselves.

In the SIM Lab, they practiced real-world medical skills, applying what they’ve learned in class to simulated emergency situations. During Control the Bleed Training, students discovered how to respond quickly and effectively in critical moments to stop life-threatening bleeding. They also took part in a Distracted Driving Simulation, where they saw firsthand the dangers of losing focus behind the wheel.

By the end of the day, students walked away with a deeper appreciation for emergency medicine, trauma care, and the vital importance of safety, both in the lab and in everyday life.
